This peace pole is designed to inspire unity, reflection, and a shared commitment to peace.
The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise recently installed our first Peace Pole at Monroe School. This project is part of Rotary District 5240’s Peacebuilder initiative, a district-wide commitment to fostering peace locally and globally. As a designated Peacebuilder Club, we are dedicated to addressing the root causes of conflict, such as poverty, inequality, lack of access to education, and limited economic opportunity, through meaningful service and community engagement.
Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is built through actions that improve lives: supporting education and literacy, expanding access to clean water and healthcare, promoting environmental stewardship, and strengthening local economies. Each of these efforts contributes to a more stable, hopeful, and connected community.
The Peace Pole at Monroe School serves as a visible and lasting symbol of these values. Peace Poles are placed in communities around the world to inspire unity, reflection, and a shared commitment to peace.

By placing this Peace Pole on a school campus, we hope to inspire students, staff, and families to think about the role each of us plays in creating a more peaceful and inclusive world.

The Peace Committee is lead by Gary Jensen and our club’s first peace pole was installed by Stephen Frangos and Dennis Johns.
