President Liz appreciated for helping us Unite For Good, Impress Ourselves, and discover what Opportunities Await!
The Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise concluded another successful Rotary year with its annual Step Down celebration, a cherished tradition filled with laughter, creativity, and gratitude.
Hosted by Immediate Past President Ellen Chase and a talented committee of club members, the evening honored outgoing President Liz Alves through a series of skits, music, and the annual recitation of the legendary Lirty Dies About Alz Lives by Bill Abel.
This year’s program paid tribute to President Liz’s theme, Impress Yourself, and her beloved Care Bears. Club members entertained with a variety of skits, including a torrential rainstorm during a board meeting at the Trout Club, a meeting of Care Bears Anonymous led by Dr. Feelgood, an FBI raid on President Liz’s alleged illegal bingo operation, and a spirited D.A.R.E. cheer led by Dare Bear. The Kule Klub ukulele group performed a customized rendition and sing-along of Gotta Travel On Liz.
The evening concluded with Immediate Past President Ellen Chase presenting Liz with her Past President’s pin in recognition of her dedicated service. Liz then pinned incoming President Angelique, who will lead the club during the 2026-27 Rotary year, and Angelique in turn pinned Kirk as President-Elect.
Club members also presented Liz with a commemorative plaque that read: "With grateful appreciation for helping us Unite For Good, Impress Ourselves, and discover what Opportunities Await with the help of friendly Care Bears! It was a beary good year!"
The celebration ended with cake and appreciation for a year marked by service, friendship, and plenty of Care Bear-inspired fun. Thank you, Liz!
