Kiwanis and Rotary joined forces to provide donations to support students and families in need.

With the start of the new school year just around the corner, the Kiwanis Club of Santa Barbara and the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise joined forces to provide donations to support students and families in need. The Back-To-School Shopping Day was held at Old Navy in downtown Santa Barbara. One hundred students from Cleveland Elementary School were able to select a new jacket, clothing, and a backpack filled with school supplies. Clothing from Old Navy was funded by $10,000 in grants from the Kiwanis Club of Santa Barbara and the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise Charitable Foundation. Funding for the backpacks was provided by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Each student also received a Happy Meal courtesy of McDonalds of Santa Barbara. Kiwanis and Rotary volunteers assisted students and their parents register, select clothing, check out, and distribute Happy Meals.

The price increase on consumer goods has made it difficult for families getting their children ready for the new school year. Everything costs more these days and school supplies are no exception. E-commerce data analytics reports an average 25% price increase for school supplies due to shuttered factories, closed ports, shipping delays, and more. Kiwanis and Rotary volunteers hope this day of shopping sends students to school feeling confident and prepared for the academic year.
