Sight restoring surgeries made possible through the partnership of SB Sunrise and Nat-Tha-Hi
Over two days, 11 incredible surgeons performed 70 eye surgeries, with the help of Rotarians, Rotaractors, Exchange Students from the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise and Rotary Club of Celaya Nat-Tha-Hi, and community volunteers who assisted in everything from food delivery to patient care to support a free eye surgery campaign at Clinic Beatriz Velazco de Aleman in Celaya, Mexico.
PDG LuzMaria Ortiz shared, “One patient was crying when she left the clinic, saying not only is her life changing, but also the lives of her family members! Another very young Mom with two young kids (her husband abandoned them when she lost her sight). She used to walk her kids to school, but did not cross the street with them, she can now safely escort them across the street. She can see and is now able to work and provide for her family.”
A huge thank you to everyone who made this campaign possible, especially Dr. Jose Manuel Araquistan for using the photocoagulator, and Dr. Irusteta and his daughter, Dr. Leire Irusteta, for their years of dedication. And to Nat-Tha-Hi Rotarian PDG Rosita Acevedo for her hospitality.
The funding of the photocoaguator was made possible through a Rotary Foundation Global Grant, with generous support from District 4140, District 5240, the Rotary Club of Celaya Nat-Tha-Hi, and Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise Charitable Foundation.
