The Art of Negotiation
Negotiations are more of an art form than science, although successful negotiations do rely to some extent on the science of human behavior. There is no one formula that is applicable to every negotiation. However, there are stages to a successful negotiation. Jim will discuss those stages as well as what does not usually work in negotiations.
Jim earned his law degree in 1973 from the University of Michigan. After graduation he and Bobbie moved to Denver where Jim practiced as a commercial/corporate/securities litigator through the end of 2007. Almost every one of those cases involved attempts to negotiate a settlement and Jim has negotiated settlements in well over a100 cases. He has served as a mediator and arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association for over 35 years. In addition, Jim is on the Colorado and California chapters of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals, an invitation only organization, and is o a Volunteer Settlement Master with the Santa Superior Courts.
