Dear Montecito Rotary Friends,

“That’s not fair!”

As children on a playground, we must have said it a hundred times. Or thought it when our teacher gave us too much homework, or shouted it when our parent punished us and not our brother or sister (because we were the one who got caught).

In Rotary, we turn our cry into a 4-Way Test question: Is it fair to all concerned?

The more I think about this question and the ethic it promotes, the more grateful I am for it. It’s not me-first, it’s all-of-us-first. It’s taking the time and having the patience to be sure that no one is overlooked, no one is undervalued.

The next time I’m in a hurry, the next time I’m tempted to put my needs first, I’m going to ask myself #2 of the 4-way Test. It’s a good question.

Tecolote Tour

Mary Sheldon with Club President Peter Buehler

On August 4th we met at the Tecolote Book Shop for a presentation by co-owner Mary Sheldon.  She provided background on the publishing industry as well as the logistics of managing an independent bookstore.  In addition, she shared some excellent book recommendations.

A special lunch followed at Pan e Vino.  Many thanks to Tony Morris for arranging such a delicious treat.
