I am excited to hear the speaker at our first club meeting of 2021. Angie Daus of the Santa Barbara Airport will update us on our local airport and what to expect in domestic and international travel this year. Like many of you, I’m already dreaming of what that first trip might be.
And I also have some good news to share, thanks to Bernadette Bagley’s leadership. Our club successfully completed the District 5240 Annual Fund Challenge before the December 31 deadline. We exceeded $150 in per capita contributions to the Annual Fund for the Rotary year 2020-21. Thank you, Club members!
With my best wishes for the New Year ahead,
Essential Supplies Arrive at Nyantende Hospital
Amani Tom, our partner from the Rotary Club of Bukavu Mwangaza in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, sent an update from the Nyantende Hospital in South Kivu.
Badly needed medical supplies and personal protection equipment were delivered to the hospital thanks to funds provided by our club and others in Group 8. Supplies included thermo flashes, medical masks, latex gloves, sterile gloves, hydro-alcoholic disinfectants, anti-malaria, oral & injectable medicines, and trash cans for hygiene inside the hospital.
COVID-19 restrictions are especially challenging for seniors. To ease the burden we sent hand-written holiday cards and gifts of essential items to senior residents at the Golden Inn & Village, a retirement community in Santa Ynez.
Peter & Kati Buehler collected donations at their house, and thanks to your generous support Tony Morris' car was packed to near bursting when he made the final delivery!
District 5240 challenged every Rotary Club in the district to raise $52.40 per member to support the Rotary International Annual Fund.
We did it! Together we raised $5,530 for the Rotary Foundation's Annual Fund.
Thanks to everyone who contributed. Your gift helps Rotary take action to create positive change in communities at home and around the world with grants that help strengthen peace efforts, provide clean water and sanitation, support education, grow local economies, save mothers and children, and fight disease.
After successfully establishing a presence in Great Britain and Ireland, Rotary expanded its reach to mainland Europe with the chartering of a club in Madrid, Spain, on New Year’s Day 1921.
