Who are Rotary Scholars?

As Vocational Chair, Carolyn Mueller today spoke about the various scholarship programs Rotary International has for students as well as young adults. Our Club sponsors an annual dinner to raise scholarship money for Morro Bay High School students both academic & vocational scholars.
RI has sponsored the high school student exchange program since 1929. Students are 16 to 19 years old, attend high school in their host country, live with ideally three host's families, learn a new language, experience daily life as part of the community and maybe travel. This is a life-changing experience for the students with life-long ties to their host country & family.

GSE is a Group Study Exchange for student's age 20-35 years old, who are not Rotarians or family members. This is more of a vocational exchange with 20 students sharing their work & what they do with and learning about their vocational peers in a host country. The students and team leader are hosted by Rotary Clubs during their 4-6 week study exchange where they usually travel to many parts of their host country in a short amount of time. The Ambassadorial Scholars program began in 1947 and was first established for all graduate & post graduate students and vocational students who wanted to advance their education in an international university. The program has recently changed with an emphasis on humanitarian work. The Ambassadorial Scholarships program supports the vision of The Rotary Foundation to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by developing leaders who can address the humanitarian needs of the world community. The student must be fluent in the host country language, have an understanding of what Rotary's focus is and leadership potential. Ambassadorial scholars are awarded a $26,000 scholarship for one academic year. To download a brochure, Click here.
Rotary International Foundation Peace & Conflict Resolution are Rotary Peace Fellows who are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn either a master's degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution.
