March is Literacy Month

Literacy and poverty are closely connected, and at least 1.2 billion poor people cannot read or write. Rotarians around the world partner with local schools to give children better opportunities.
On a local level an on-going literacy project, the Rotary Club of Los Osos supports reading in our community by donating notable children's books for young readers and older readers selected by retired librarian, Carolyn Mueller. We ask our weekly speakers to sign a book dedicating it to the children of Los Osos.
On the international level, we have help set up a library & computer lab in a school in the Philippines with the help of past president Dick Pacaoan. At present, we are in partnership with other Rotary Clubs in our district working on a project in Rwanda with member Daudi Kaliisa.
