Three members of the Rotary Club of Los Osos were joined by Family and friends, along with Sherry Sim PP and PE of Cayucos Seaside Rotary Club were among hundreds of volunteers who decorated the Award Winning float named "Planting the Seeds of Service" for the Rose Parade on New Years Day. Our entire team was new to the experience and everyone got hands on experience handling flowers and materials both familiar and strange. Rick Robinett, Lynn Robinett and her sister Kim worked on the carrot tops, gluing dried parsley to thin rods in a very painstaking process. The team then turned to the new process of creating "lettuce" out of Antherium Midori. Michelle and Dave Feldman spent 2 1/2 hours on the first one at the front, then moved to complete a second "head" at the back of the float. Rick, Lynn and Kim took on two heads on the other side at the front while Sherry Sim, Deanna Richards and her friend Ann worked on the "lettuce" at the back. The shift we were awarded was from 4-11pm on Friday, December 29th which turned out to be a good time to be there as the flowers were the main focus of our decorating. Rick, Dave, Ann and the rest carried hundreds and hundreds of rose blossoms from the flower storage area to the float. Those were applied in the following 2 days as the judging rounds were taking place. It is a scene of organized chaos with such positive energy under the stress of a hard time frame. The entire team enjoyed the experience and some will likely join in a gain in the future. Bucket List: CHECK!
