Guest speaker Heather Frankle from the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise spoke passionately about the '5 Points Program' for Rotary to help eliminate extreme poverty.

1. Water & Sanitation 2. Health & Nutrition 3. Education, especially for the girl child 4. Vocational Training 5. Micro credits

Extreme poverty affects 3 billion people and includes 2.2 million children who have not been immunized. They are the faces of people who:

·         earn $1.00/$2.00 day

·         are always hungry

·         they and their children are always sick

·         they have no clean water or sanitation

·         no education for their children

·         no hope

·         no voice

·         no control over their destiny

Heather has been instrumental in starting the "Adopt A Village" road map to help other Rotarians to make a multi-year (5-6 years) commitment, to use the strategic plan (5 points program), identify the problem, come up with a solution, network with stake holders (partners)to participate with the villagers and local Rotarians.

Right now Simi Sunrise with Heather's guidance is working on the beginning stages in Choluteca, Honduras on clean water and drilling a 350 foot well and composing latrines including hand washing stations.  This is what the villagers requested; they told the Rotarians that nine months out of the year the water makes them sick and three months out of the year they are without water.
