Our club program was the presentation of each of the charities submitted by the members. There were eleven charities in all and we will be choosing where we each want to put our $300 at the next two meetings. Here is a description of each charity.
Scot Nichols shared about Big Brothers Big Sisters. There mission is to provide to children facing adversity with strong enduring professional supported 1 to 1 relationships that change lives for the better forever.
Breven Baima shared on Jeannie Varela behalf El Padrecito Ministries. El Padrecito was started by Father Masseo Gonzales in Guadalupe is evangelizing Youth through the arts, media and entertainment. They offer classes to to disadvantaged children and their families in hiphop, ballet and tap.
John Peters shared about the 5 Cities Homeless Coalition. The 5Cities Homeless Coalition is working to strengthen the south San Luis Obispo County community by mobilizing resources, hope, and support for the homeless and those facing poverty. There are currently 8 board members and are looking for additional members. The coalition has reduced our homeless from 80 to 24.
Bev Goble shared about Gleanings for the Hungry. Gleanings is located in Sultana, CA and they takes donated food and makes trail mix with dried fruit and a dry soup mix and send it to the hungry all over the world. in 2016 they made 1,603,915 pounds of dry soup mix. 356,554 pounds of dried fruit all processed by 3000 volunteers along with 750 handcrafted quilts shipped to 23 countries.
Carla Muller talked about Grizzly Academy "Grizzly Youth Academy (GYA) is a partnership between the California National Guard and the Grizzly Challenge Charter School. For youth between the ages of 16 and 18 who have dropped out of high school, or are at-risk of dropping out, we offer a highly-structured environment that promotes leadership, cooperation, and academic skills, while building self esteem, pride, and confidence."
Bruce Ekmanian's choice is Home Front Warriors.
We help veterans and first responders relieve symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic stress syndrome so they can live better.
We are a non-profit post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic stress syndrome clinic for veterans and first responders. Our comprehensive, non-drug approach addresses the physical, emotional and neuro-chemicals affects thus allowing natural restoration of the limbic system, endocrine system and sleep to occur.
Steve Curry's charity is SLO County Womenade.
Womenade's mission is Easing our community’s emotional and financial burdens through relationships with caring referring partners.
San Luis Obispo County Womenade is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving San Luis Obispo County in California: We are a community network that donates items, time, and money to meet essential needs in the County. All funds go directly to support those in crisis, with referrals coming from schools, medical professionals, county health departments, and local social services.
Diane Tuttle's charity is SLO Noor Foundation. In 2009, Dr. Ahmad Nooristani recognized the need to provide care to uninsured adults in SLO County. The SLO Noor Foundation opened in October 2011 to aid this problem by providing free, high quality acute, non-emergent health care to those who could not otherwise afford to access care in San Luis Obispo County. They also provide dental and vision services.
Sandy Nichols and Lettie Fuller presented on behalf of Teen Challenge. Ventura Teen Challenge was established in 1972 and serves the Tri-Counties region: Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties. Teen Challenge is a 12-month residential discipleship ministry for women eighteen years of age and over. Upon completion of the three-month induction phase located in Los Angeles or Kern County facilities, the women are transported to our Ventura Women’s Home for the remainder of nine months. Chapel services, Bible studies, and general work programs are held daily. It is also possible for them to receive their high school diploma or GED certificate through the local school district.
Michael Hunstad's charity is The First Tee of Central Coast. The First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through after school and in school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf. And it’s making a difference.
Breven Baima presented Welcome Home Military Heros.
Our MISSION is to WELCOME HOME all of our LOCAL returning troops (R&R or permanent return) and THANK each and every one of them for a job well done! Our Troops are never forgotten and are thought about in everything we do. Our prayers are for their safe & speedy return. They make us very proud to be Americans.
The SUCCESS of our MISSION are the folks in our group. Veterans, American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard Riders, Military Parents & Friends and Patriotic Individuals give of their time for our Local Sons & Daughters returning home.
