Sandra Sansoni introduced Wade Nomura: Charter member/past president of the Carpinteria Morning Club; multiple/charter member Paul Harris Fellow/Society; Rotary Foundation Major Donor; PRLS/Master PRLS graduate and instructor; several District 5240 offices; and Rotary International presenter in Mexico, Belize, India, Guatemala, Honduras; 14 international missions for polio, drinking water projects, health, education and training.

Nomura said that several years ago he took the PRLS training and then was asked if he would consider becoming a trainer.  He said no as he did not have a good opinion of the training program and its content.  He was asked if he would do it if he was given the chance to reorganize it and make it better.  He said yes and he did.  It has since evolved, in his opinion, to become the best ever training for Rotarians.  PRLS was introduced in 1993 when it was observed that Club Presidents were pretty much taking office and doing the same things as their predecessors.  The training now gives leadership skills that can be used to improve Rotary activities, their own businesses and provide insight with family issues.

Nomura has taught over a 100 courses representing over 200 Rotary leaders who graduated from the programs.  PRLS includes five modules of training: Basic Leadership, Leading a Meeting, Communications, Rotary- Your Club and You and Public Speaking.  Master PRLS program is directed to those who wish to become Club Presidents and hold offices at the District level.  Our Club boasts one Master PRLS graduate: Anita Shower.  Master PRLS modules include: Extemporaneous Speaking, Planned Speaking, Facilitation Skills (conflict resolution), Situational Leadership, Business Model Planning and Project Management.  Both of these one classes cost $50, sometimes paid by the Club.  For more information and training dates, contact Nomura, 805-448-9912, wadeDG1112@verizon.net or www.prls.org .
