Three Central Coast Roller Hockey Rockers: Christina Fontecchio, Carolyn Novack, and Mia Powell – all three gave a brief presentation as to what made them join the roller hockey league lighting up the state, like in the days of yore when Terros Sanchez and Joanie Weston brought fans to Roller Derby!

Carolyn (Dodger Blue), Christina (Mafia Mistress), and Mia (Pow Wow) were entertaining and informative.  Christine Novack was introduced to hockey in 2006 and has been a member ever since.  'Sugar Puss' got her interested and she has been slightly bashing the other teams during competitions ever since.

Christina was introduced to hockey by someone who works at Grande Health Foods and Christina is now the president of the league.  Mia has been with the league for three years and was urged to join by her brother.

There is a sequence that follows from Rookie-101 for 10 weeks of training in how to fall, how to stop, how to get up when you do fall and feel pain and where you go once you pass from Rookie-102 to Roller Girl.  Roller Girl is for six months.  Practice is three days a week.  There are rules and regulations including a penalty box and ejections from the game.

It is a family event; all are welcome.  This particular league is from Arroyo Grande to Paso Robles; there are two teams plus the new group termed 'fresh meat.'  Roller hockey started up 6 years ago in Texas.  They play hard but not dirty.  Do tons of community service and are a non-profit entity.  Their support group numbers between 600-800 people.  They, so far, have raised $30,000!  "Roller Derby is cheaper than anger management."
