Steve Curry
gave a very uplifting report on the recent RI convention in Los Angeles. He wishes more could attend. There were over 40,000 Rotarians and guests. He said that the Portland convention was memorable as 19 members of the PB/Five Cities Club were in attendance. Speakers were inspirational. There were over a 100 booths; some selling souvenirs, others displaying the efforts of Clubs throughout the world. There was an Interact and a Rotoract booth.
Steve
traded 50 flags and pins with other Rotarians which offered an opportunity for him to talk to them about their activities and goals. He met a past Thailand exchange student from his Club and she is now the first woman president of her Club in Thailand. He said that the CEO's of WHO, UNICEF and CDC spoke, all giving the elimination of polio throughout the world their highest priority. He strongly recommends attendance at any future RI convention. Mike Balster said there was a full page spread in a recent USA Today on the convention and its value.
