Lorena Chavez of the California Strawberry Commission spoke at our luncheon on Wednesday.  Ms. Chavez is the first Latina woman to chair the commission.  The commission is comprised of 40 members.  Ms Chavez is a second-generation Mexican-American strawberry farmer from Santa Maria.  She is the controller of L & G Farming, a family-operated business and works with her father and brothers.  She and her brother also own and operate DL Farm Management in Santa Maria, where they farm 500 aces of strawberries.
