H.O. Williams was our honored WWII Veteran this week.  I asked what the H.O. stood for and he replied Hansel, but stopped using that name in the first grade.  Mr Williams volunteered for the Navy on his 18th birthday and reported for boot camp in Idaho, with additional schooling in North Dakota.  He spent most of the war in San Diego in ship repair.  Being his name was at the end of the alphabet he was assigned to sweep floors, but was trained as an assistant in the electrical field.

Mr Williams retired from Lockheed in 1991 and has lived in Arroyo Grande since 1998

Steve Curry did an outstanding job of explaining why Rotary to our new members and introduced again our  five new members, who then each gave a short craft talk, allowing us to get to know them better.  Our newest members are, Jeannie Varela, Lettie Fuller, Glynda Fry-Stewart, Michael Hunstad and Bob Stock

Nora O'Donnell of the Grover Beach Recreation Department was our guest speaker.  She is a 2nd generation local and spent 17 years in the navy, graduated from Cuesta College in 1995 and Cal Poly in 1999 with a degree in Recreation Administration and Events.  In 2002 she was hired full-time with Grover Beach and "gets paid to play".  She loves seeing people enjoy all the activities.

Nora shared some of the upcoming activities that Grover Beach has planned.  On September 11 there will be a special 9/11 art show at the Ramona Gardens event center, the annual pumpkin carving contest in October and the Holiday Parade with a Hawiiaan theme the 1st Saturday in December.  (We help with this event)

In her spare time she does crafting and sings with the Pacific Horizon Chorus ( they are looking for female singers ).
