Food Bank Organization

     President Elect Clark introduced Cindy Maddux, praised her community involvement work, and said that she will continue to have a major impact upon our club activities and in the community.

     Cindy has been involved in helping those less fortunate for over twenty-seven years when she first joined a Food Bank organization. She has since served on the Board of Directors and helped formulate and direct the merger of other food donation programs, such as Harvest Bag into a now countywide Food Bank organization with a division, the South County Food Bank.

 

     Cindy reminded us that there are many people that are not doing well this year with transitions into new businesses, new jobs and housing and the Food Bank gives these folks a boost when it is really needed. She said that thousands are still going hungry in the SouthCounty and we need to be vigilant. Not only does the Food Bank establish food give away locations, they encourage other public benefit organizations to buy food from them at very reasonable prices to distribute to their constituency. They are actively looking for other organizations to help spread the effort. There are still many single moms and elderly people who fall through the social service cracks and need help. She reported that the Food Bank currently serves over 40,000 people between Paso Robles and Nipomo and that her involvement has been a rich and rewarding experience.

     She said that she was quite pleased with the Rotary mission and their local and international benefit programs, they touched her heart and she was honored to join an organization where she could easily become the conduit from good donors like Rotary to local folks in need. She has an excellent community network to call upon.

     She noted the small number of members in the Club and felt that there are ways to improve the membership by 100% over the next year or so. One way is to advertise more the good things that the Club does. She encourages members to call her with thoughts and ideas. 710-7556 (cp).
