Sandy Nichols introduced Dana Cummings: Served six years in the Marine Corps in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is an amputee having lost a leg due to a car accident. There purpose is to work with amputees through Adaptive Surfing and other fun safe outdoor activities. Dana has a degree in Computer Software Engineering and is currently the Executive Director of AmpSurf. He actively participates in surfing, water skiing and soccer.

With a video taken at Pismo Beach, amputees, some legless, were being introduced to the sport of surfing. The courage of those taking this first step is inspiring to everyone and particularly to others with disabilities. The key word of their organization is PIER, representing Promote, Inspire, Educate and Rehabilitate, all intended to help the amputees gain confidence and hope as they learn this sport. Dana said, "We just show them how and tell them they can do it. We get them off of the couch, get them busy and inspire them."  The organization also encourages and supports amputees to compete in athletic events. Many have come away with gold medals and trophies. Make Donations Payable to: Association of Amputee Surfers and send to: AmpSurf, C/O Dana Cummings, P.O. Box 5045, San Luis Obispo, CA 93403.
