Goleta, Santa Barabra, Montecito, and Carpinteria Rotarians are raising awareness and funds for polio eradication. Individual and group activities will be documented online as we bike, hike, or walk our local beaches & trails to raise money.  Every dollar collected will be matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for triple impact.

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan & Pakistan, but it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Will you help us in this effort?  Click here for more information.

And join us on World Polio Day as the Group 8 Rotary clubs of District 5240 host a virtual event featuring a presentation by Craig Needham titled Looking Up: Raised by a Mother in an Iron Lung.  The event will take place on October 24th at 4:00 PM and is free to attend.  Click here to register.

The World Polio Day presentation is sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carpinteria, Carpinteria Morning, Carpinteria Sunset, Goleta, Goleta Evening, Montecito, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Sunrise & Santa Barbara North; and the Rotaract Clubs of Santa Barbara & UCSB.
