Every year the members of the Sherman E. Burroughs High School Interact Club raise the funds necessary to sponsor a young girl in India to attend the PACE Universal school in Piyali Junction, India. This opportunity for an education means that young girl will have a real chance to break the bonds of poverty and avoid the difficulties that await many young women in her village.
Their student is Ambika Mondal, age 7.

The girls at the Piyali Learning Center send cards to their sponsors to let them know how they are doing in school, and to share a little bit about themselves. These cards offer tangible evidence for the Interactors that their efforts are making a positive difference in a little girl’s life.
Started by Past District 5240 Governor Deepa Willingham and the Rotary Club of Calcutta Metropolitan, the mission of the PACE Learning Center is to create “a world free from child trafficking, where girls have the opportunity to pursue quality education, are empowered to discover and reach their full potential, and are ready to improve their own lives and those of their communities.”
