It is with a heavy heart that I report that long-time Rotarian Steven Boster passed away last weekend at the age of 79.

Steve joined the Rotary Club of China Lake on November 1st, 1995, and served as Club President three times; in 2004-2005, 2014-2015, and 2022-2023. He also served as President, Secretary, and General member of the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of China Lake Charitable Foundation, and at the District Level as Assistant Governor for Group 1 in the 2007-2008 Rotary year.

Steve was a past Rotarian of the Year for 2014-2015. Here is an excerpt from the speech announcing his selection as Rotarian of the Year:
“The Rotarian of the Year is selected by the Past Rotarians of the Year. The person chosen to receive the award tonight is believed to have been an inspiration to club members during the past year.
The Four Way Test, Club and community service, attendance, dedication and “Service Above Self” are just a few of the requirements looked at in the selection process.
This year we are pleased to present the Everett A. Long Rotarian of the Year Award to a person who has continuously demonstrated those qualities.
Not only this year, but for past years, Steven Boster has exemplified his commitment and leadership to his fellow Rotarians, our community, our club and Rotary at large. Steve has supported the our Interact Clubs, RYLA Campers, Scholarship Committee, Club & Community Directors, International Directors … the list goes on. As well as leading us through a revitalization of our club from Fireside chat comments.
Steve is truly an inspiration to all of us as he works diligently performing his duties in the club as president, not once put two times to lead our Club in continuing the life of Service. The Past Rotarians of the Year are happy and excited to present the 2015-2016 Rotarian of the Year Award to Steve Boster.”
He had not yet served his third term as President, but that just emphasized his on-going commitment to Rotary and the personal qualities that made Steve such a wonderful Rotarian and person. In addition to that Steve and his wife Mary were generous donors to the club Scholarship Dinner and Auction.
Cards of condolence are welcome, but it has been requested that telephone calls to Steve’s Wife Mary be held off until next week in order for her to begin the mourning process.
