The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow is The Rotary Foundation's way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs. It is named for Rotary’s founder, Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started Rotary International with three business associates in 1905. The Fellowship was established in his honor in 1957. The Paul Harris Fellow certificate identifies the recipient  as an advocate of the Foundation's goals of world peace and international understanding.
The Rotary Foundation is  able to carry out an array of programs that achieve beneficial changes in our world: improved living conditions, increased food production, better education, wider availability of treatment and rehabilitation for the sick and disabled, new channels for the flow of international understanding, and brighter hopes for peace.
The Rotary Foundation supports Polio Plus, as well as educational programs: ambassadorial scholarships, Group Study Exchange, Rotary Grants for University Teachers, and Rotary World Peace Scholarships. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
