Creekside Rotary Celebrates Rotary’s 117th Anniversary

Feb 23, 1905

Paul P. Harris, an attorney in Chicago, gathered with a few of his friends, to create a professional organization with high ethical standards. In a short time, Rotary blossomed into the revered worldwide organization that it is today, with more than 1.2 million business, professional and community-oriented citizens who provide humanitarian service, high standards in all vocations and help build peace and goodwill in the world.  Currently there are 34,282 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
Internationally and nationally Rotary provides water and sanitation, disease prevention and treatment (only 3 countries are still polio-endemic), economic and community development, basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, as well as peace and conflict prevention/resolution. For over 75 years Rotary Clubs have been providing Foreign Exchange programs to students in 80 countries.

The real story, however, is all the great work that Rotarians do locally. Rotary Club of Salem Creekside continues to provide dictionaries to 4th grade students in public and private schools, as well as school supplies to all students in need, working together to help ensure that our neighbors have food through the Marion Polk Food Share Services, Salvation Army, as well as numerous non-profit organizations and educational programs.

Salem Creekside Rotary is known for our belief in “Hand On” service projects. We’re often seen together working in the community, helping one of the numerous programs or organizations that we support, or just cleaning up our adopted Halls Ferry Park on the Willamette River.  We assist area schools through numerous programs that help students learn the importance of education, service and leadership. We are strong supporters of our military families.  As well as the international community with projects that make a difference, wells & clean water to villagers in Uganda, as well as the eradication of Polio.

We meet weekly and enjoy introducing guests to our friendly meetings and entertaining educational programs.  For more information and stories about our projects and activities, check our Club website www.clubrunner.ca/salemcreekside.
