Special Event a Rousing Success

Thanks to the efforts of so many club members, our special event last Friday turned out wonderfully! Thank you to all who helped coordinate this event and worked so hard to make it successful. Assistant District Governor Lee Harmon was so impressed that he
submitted an article to the Peace Arch Journal about the event. This is what he wrote in the introduction to Bob Knight: "Gosh, I wish everyone could have been at Lake Stevens/Granite Falls Rotary this morning. I've seen scores of programs over the years and today's meeting enters my secret list of the Top Three."
And here are excerpts from what he wrote, "Today was a proud day for the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens/Granite Falls, opening their weekly meeting to an invited throng of over 110 dignitaries: youngsters and young adults with their parents from 8 area schools, [and other guests from the community].
After an eight month endeavor, credited to the dogged perseverance of program chair Sam Bryce, the club secured as their speaker former NASA Astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar.
Members of the Lake Stevens/Granite Falls Club, spearheaded by organizer Jim Kelly, soon realized the incredible opportunity to share her message with area youngsters and young adults from not one but EIGHT area schools, elementary through high school.
All eight participating schools were honored with a plaque commemorating the event, containing a beautiful NASA picture of Astronaut Dunbar in her space gear and a quotation of motivation specially written by her.
Says Club President Debe, "Our goal was to inspire the youth of the community we serve, while introducing and promoting Rotary to all members of our community." To this end, she reports, the day was a rousing success; in fact, two adults approached her after the meeting wondering how they could share in the magic of Rotary."
