Lake Stevens Fire

Our program August 6th was our own member, Kevin O'Brien, Chief of the Lake Stevens Fire accompanied by Dave Peterson, Assistant Fire Marshal. Lake Stevens Fire serves the City of Lake Stevens, Hartford, Frontier Village, Cavelero, Glennwood, Georgetown, Machias and Forest Glade as well as Soper Hill, Sunnyside and Ebey Island north of the Trestle.
Kevin talked about their planning process, "Planning for Tomorrow-Serving People, Saving Life and Protecting Property." New recruits go through twelve weeks of Academy training in North Bend. Lake Stevens Fire is involved in technical rescue training at Station #83 - Machias and they partner with communities in the surrounding areas; participate in National Night Out with a library booth presenting books to young children for someone to read to them which is courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Theme, secret agents of safety. The department serves 42,350 with paramedic service to Granite Falls and Lake Rossinger. The department has 88 employees from firefighters, paramedics to administration support and volunteer chaplains.
Lake Stevens Fire is about to embark on architectural design for the most reasonable facilities such as Station #83 at Machias which only houses two employees. In terms of LSF leadership, Deputy Chief Larry Huff has been around for 21 years. The newest member is Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Mike Messer.
LSF prepares an annual yearly report of their operations. Fires are fairly low at 3%. Big grouping of emergency calls. Service strategy Fire and EMS is that they attempt to reach us within 4-6 minutes. The department provides wild land firefighting support. The next fire engine will be here in January. It such a great honor to have such a great Fire Department in our community with great leadership and a wonderful group of employees at all levels of the Department.
