Classification Talk & Visitors

Charter Club Member Joyce Bell gave her Classification Talk at last week's meeting. Usually, members give their Talk soon after joining. In Joyce's case she's been really busy since helping start the Club in 1991. She shared some of her experiences growing up during the depression in Texas attending a one room school house and living on 600 acres. At the age of 16 she had moved to Houston and worked at a grocery store. Within four years she was the manager of the produce section. A few years after that she met a cadet, married, had a daughter, spent time in Europe and returned to the States. The marriage lasted a dozen or so years but it brought her briefly to the Pacific Northwest and specifically the Lake Stevens area. She was married a second time for a while. It was her drive and determination to take care of herself and her daughter that led to her career as a real estate agent and broker. Joyce returned to Lake Steven about 40 years ago, bought a "cabin" on the Lake and has been here ever since. That "cabin" was upgraded to a home. After a short time owning a business jointly with a friend, Joyce bought the friend out and has operated Bell Properties--a property management, homeowners association management and real estate company.

Joyce was instrumental in the founding of the Lake Stevens Senior Center and the Lake Stevens Education Foundation. She was Grand Marshall of the Aquafest Grand Parade in 2010. She has been an active Rotarian since the Club's founding including a year as President 2002-2003. Earlier this year she was given a surprise birthday party by her staff and grandson.
