The featured speaker at this week's meeting is Gary Carrier, Founder and CEO of Plataforma Impact, an organization designed to expand education and opportunity to global, untapped human human capital for a more inclusive and competitive economy. Gary will speak about how we’re living in perhaps the most important crossroads in human history. A time when the imperfect systems of the past collide with opportunity for a utopian future, fueled by a technological revolution and a global spiritual awakening. The outcome of which will be determined by our capacity to grasp the urgency of both.

Civic Center Proposals

The program this week was provided by Program Chairman Don Iverson. The program was a recording of the public hearing on the proposed Civic Center. The Lake Stevens Civic Center-2 hour meeting was condensed into 25 minutes of the most detailed aspects of the meeting showcasing three design options. The public comment period is April 22nd. You can go to the either of the following two websites to add your comments to the three proposals. They are the City's Civic Center information page or this Online Survey. The latter was provided by Councilwoman Mary Dickinson.

Visual concepts of the vision for the civic center at Chapel Hill will be the addition of significant meeting space available in the proposals. The Civic Center will include the City Hall, Sewer District and a much desired new Library.

After viewing the three proposals, you can answer the survey with your recommendations on the three proposals. Alternative One: Parking available with green buffers. City Hall would be a two-story building while the library will be a single story. Alternative Two: A three story building with shared components. Private development be available for the north parcels of the property which could offset the cost of the project (these parcels are where the current houses are sitting including the one with the glacial erratic). Super compact concept. More parking available with less green space available. Large meeting rooms available to be shared by the City and the Library. Higher level of potential development. Alternative Three: Separate on their own two parcels. Central gathering space could be still shared. Wetlands issues are more significant with a larger price tag. However, all three clusters are similar in cost.
