Hazel Borden, who is the Snohomish County Community Outreach Coordinator for the Alzheimer's Association of Washington State was our guest speaker last week and explained that there is no difference between Alzheimer's and dementia. To put it in prospective: the organization's VISION is a World without Alzheimer's and to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance the care and support for all affected and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Hazel talked about the importance of Support Groups who provide a caring place for emotional support to discuss caregiver challenges. She commented that women are more likely to be affected by these diseases.The Alzheimer's organization offers educational programs as well as Advocacy. She mentioned their yearly visit to the legislature as a mean of keeping the issue before state lawmakers and the public.
