 Our guest speakers this past week were Josh O'Connor, Publisher of the Everett Herald and Kay Fantin, Director of Workforce Engagement, United Way of Snohomish County talking about the 75th Anniversary of the organization. When it started on November 8, 1940 the name of the organization was the Everett Community and War Chest. The first campaign raised $41,191.77 in just nine days under the leadership of Roy Sievers. The goal of United Way of America and Snohomish County is still focused on mobilizing the caring power of communities and making a difference.

Today, the vision of United Way of Snohomish County is that everyone deserves the opportunity of a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement and a healthy community. The building blocks for a good life and the organization's vision concentrate on a 1) Successful Kids- Helping kids develop a love of reading; 2) Financially Stable Families by helpingthem meet their basic needs and 3) Healthy Communities through promoting community engagement. The 75th Anniversary theme and goals are co-chaired by Josh and Larry Hanson who was unable to be here with us today. The Co-chairs have been visiting over 100 organizations. The Power of you Living United: 1. Read to a child. 2. Register to Vote. 3. Say "good morning". 4. Give to United Way. 5. Donate to a food bank.
United Way of Snohomish County in conjunction with other community non-profits and for-profit organizations in Snohomish County is working on a collaborative effort to discuss and look for ways to really help the solve homeliness. It takes a village and the goal is to put the efforts of all of these organizations on this very important issue. In the last year, Live United mobilized 2,250 volunteers; prepared 3,654 tax returns for free, stabilized over 68,527 people who where in a crisis, and cared for and connected with 15,014 seniors and over 2,996 youth participated in after school programs and 1,989 kids received a free book each month. For every dollar you invest in United Way of Snohomish County, together, they create $1.32 of value for our community.
