Snohomish County Sheriff's Deputy Josh Holmes was our guest speaker on Friday, September 16th. Deputy Holmes brought his partner, Doc, with him as part of the program. Josh was here to speak about the Snohomish County K9 Foundation. The Foundation raises funds for local law enforcement agencies to help supply equipment and help fund the purchase a K9 officer. The cost of a K9 dog is about $10,000 excluding travel for the officer, and classes with the K9. The cost to train a K9 requires 400 hours of training for the basic handler's school and the permit to meet the state canine handler certificate. K9 dogs are acquired from Indiana which is the preferred provider where the handlers choose from among 10-15 dogs, then trains with the K9 of their choice. There are two master trainers at the Sheriff's Department. FUNDRAISERS: Proceeds of every bag of Fur Missile coffee from Vinaccio Coffee in Monroe go to support the Snohomish County K9 Foundation.
