This Week's Meeting
The program at this week's meeting includes a presentation by Carol Hendricks who will talk about RI grants and how one is helping Eswatini, a country in Africa formerly called Swaziland.

The YAIL Experience
Friday's featured speaker was Josie J.O. She shared about her time as a participant at the recent District 5050 YAIL Conference.
 
The Rotary Club of Lake Stevens is proud to support the youth of our community in helping them develop their character. Josie is a member of our Interact Club, highly active in school athletics and is a Drum Major in the school band. No doubt you have met a mover and shaker who will have a profound impact on her community.
 
Josie's comments are listed below about the YAIL experience: 26 students from around the District attended this year's YAIL conference
  • First Day
    • Speaker: Krysandra Wilson
    • Culture walk: shared experiences. Lots of scenarios tearing down the walls
    • Facilitator groups: each attendee had a facilitator assigned to each attendee
    • Austin Taylor – facilitator and mentor for Josie. Group name: Thrashers
  • Day 2-What we Did
    • Speaker: Phoenix and Adam: Personality Types Overview. Myer Biggs-animals.
    • Speaker: Dr. Bowtie Jenkins.  Great speaker with lots to discuss about leadership.
    • Yailantics: group activities.  Speaker: Deb Wiggs-discussed self-leadership
    • Affirmation Representation – pipe cleaners.  Affirmation Representation
  • Day 3
    • Speaker: Celeste Mergens-helped group build a bridge: Days for Girls
The YAIL Conference is sponsored by District 5050 each year. Last year, due to Covid restrictions was held on Zoom. YAIL stands for Youth Adventures in Leadership, is open to participants ages 15-17 and is held annually at Alexandra Neighborhood House in Surrey, BC, Canada.

The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.
