Burkhead Art Center
Melinda Burkhead of the Burkhead Art Center was our guest speaker on Friday, October 22nd. Melinda grew up in the area graduating from high school in Marysville and going to the University of Washington. Drawing on her passion for the arts, Melinda completed her MFA in Sculpture at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco in 2009. She has worked in a variety of mediums including drawing, clay, wire, mixed media, metal and bronze.

In 2019, Melinda moved back to the Pacific Northwest to follow a life-long goal of opening an art center and sculpture garden. She found the perfect serene property in Snohomish and the Burkhead Art Center was born. Recently members of our Club were there creating beautiful bowls for the Lake Stevens Food Bank "Empty Bowls" in early November. More in the next story.
Empty Bowls Creations
Recently, 13 Lake Stevens Rotarians and friends gathered at Burkhead Art Center to create these beautiful bowls for the Lake Stevens Food Bank "Empty Bowls" event on November 6th from 4-8pm at the Mill in downtown Lake Stevens

1st & 3rd Rotarians in Action update
Kyle Strand reports that the 1st & 3rd Rotarians in Action group had a successful first community service event at North Lakeshore Swim Beach Park this past Tuesday, October 19th. The weather was perfect with some clear blue skies. We worked hard from 5:30 pm-6:30 pm with very little daylight remaining. However, we did get to see a little bit of a "Moonrise" as Amy called it. We focused our attention on pulling a lot of weeds throughout the area, to include raking the area of debris. We were not able to get to the one of our action items, laying down and adding sand. This will happen in the spring.
Early Spring 2922, we anticipate doing additional work.
Fresh layer of sand.
Spruce up the fence with a fresh coat of paint.
Pull weeds again.

Those in attendance:  Amy Lewandowski who brought a nice young boy with her. Connor Davis, Chris Vallo, Jim Haugen, Don Iverson and Kyle Strand.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 02, 2021 at Brian Rewis' Farmer Insurance Office at 5:30 pm.
