North Cascades Institute
Our guest speaker Friday, July 30th was Catherine Endicott, Donor Relations Manager at the North Cascade Institute. The Institute's mission is to inspire environmental stewardship through transformative learning experiences in nature. Catherine has lived all over the United States and Cameroon and decided in 2003 to make Seattle her permanent home.

To help us get started with today's program, Catherine asked a trivia questions: true or false, the North Cascades National Parks has more glaciers than Glacier National Park? TRUE. The North Cascades has 519 glaciers covering over 90 square miles between Snoqualmie Pass and the Canadian border.  The North Cascades contains the most glaciers in the lower 48 states. The North Cascades Environmental Center is located on the shores of Diablo Lake.

The Institute is a non-profit conservation organization. They work in the heart of the North Cascades ecosystem which is their classroom. The landscape is bounded by the Fraser River on the north, the Okanogan Highlands and Columbia Plateau on the east, Snoqualmie Pass on the south and the Puget lowlands to the west.

The Greater North Cascades Ecosystem comprises one of the most intact wildlands in the contiguous United States. They believe the public lands are a vital resource for education, recreation and renewal. The North Cascades Institute was founded in 1986 to conserve and restore the northwest environments through education. There is so much more to the North Cascades Institute and the Diablo Lake and Dam. To view more of the program click this link:  https://youtu.be/CvDetCudB8Y
