The area is in need of a four year college/university. Since WSU is a Land Grant University, that entitlement requires their direct involvement in economic development. Since the start of the EvCC/WSU program, many opportunities have been a direct result such as research on Oso and the mudslide that changed a community forever. Most of this effort is being funneled through the WSU Cooperative Extension Service and their Department of Agriculture.Another prominent reason is to have a top flight Engineering Program to assist Boeing employees of having the opportunity to choose from Mechanical and Electrical Engineering degree. The Triple 777 program is a great example of the need to establish a well rounded engineering program. For others, there might be interest in the Integrated Communications Program or the Hospitality Business Management. The University Center will encompasses over 95,000 sq. ft. of space when funded and when construction is finished.

 

Bob Drewel is the Chancellor of WSU Everett. He is the former Snohomish County Executive having served in that capacity from 1991 to 2003. At one time he was the President of the Everett Community College and the Executive Director of the Puget Sound Regional Council.
