At this week's meeting we will present scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Join us as we recognize several students as they head off to college, university or trade school. We are excited to be giving back to our community!

ShelterBox-Providing Shelter and Supporting Recovery

Tricia Sharp and her husband Mike Hendon are members of the Fidalgo Island Rotary Club of Anacortes. They were are guest speakers on Friday, May 24th talking about the ShelterBox disaster relief charity and their work with Rotary International as our District 5050 representatives. Pictured above are some of the supplies given to disaster victims.

ShelterBox is a global disaster relief charity that provides immediate emergency shelter and other lifesaving aid to survivors of a disaster or humanitarian crisis. Their signature ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits contain the tools to transform lives and rebuild communities. ShelterBox aid is tailored to each disaster and typically includes tented shelter, blankets and groundsheets, solar lights, cooking utensils, water purification equipment, a tool kit, mosquito nets and children's activity packs as shown in the pictures

ShelterBox and Rotary International collaborated over three years ago. ShelterBox is a non-government organization and does not receive funding from any government entity. Funding is received from individuals and organizations, including Rotary Clubs, service and community groups, schools, faith-based organizations, businesses and foundations. ShelterBox has no political or religious affiliation.

New Member-Mark Stone

Our newest member Mark Stone is given his Membership Kit by President Kevin O'Brien and Ron Rasmussen, Chair of the Membership Committee. Mark's application was approved at a special Board meeting on May 10th. After a career at Nordstrom's, Mark changed career directions and is currently a locomotive engineer for BNSF Railroad. Congratulations Mark on becoming a Rotarian.

Skateboard Park Update

Snohomish County Councilman Sam Low and a member of our Club announced that on Wednesday, May 22nd the County Council approved $2.9 million low bid from McCann Construction of Renton to build out Cavalero Hill Park In Lake Stevens. Park additions include a skate park, shade structures, parking lot, pathways, basketball court, roads and other infrastructure. Construction is expected to start in June and finish in early 2020. Congratulations Sam. Our Club has been working toward this goal for over 15 years and now it is about to become a reality. Thank you for your leadership on the skate park.
