The City hosted an open house with Snohomish County Parks, Lake Stevens Park Board and Grindline Inc. at an open house on Monday, August 8th to discuss the new Skatepark at Cavelero Park and provide input on the elements to be included in the 15,000 sq. ft. design.

 

Mical Shapiro, Marketing & sales/Lead Deisgner from Grindline was on hand to give the community information on the skatepark and some of their history. Shapiro has been a skateboarder since 1986 and has skated all over the world and in competition. The company has built skateparks all over the United States and in our own region. From Iron Horse Park in Baker, MT to North Houston Skate Park to Roxhill Park in Seattle to Texas and Hawaii, they have been deeply involved in the design and development of Skate Parks.

Our program last week was our own member, Kevin O'Brien, Chief of the Lake Stevens Fire accompanied by Dave Peterson, Assistant Fire Marshal. Lake Stevens Fire serves the City of Lake Stevens, Hartford, Frontier Village, Cavelero, Glennwood, Georgetown, Machias and Forest Glade as well as Soper Hill, Sunnyside and Ebey Island north of the Trestle.

 

Kevin talked about their planning process, "Planning for Tomorrow-Serving People, Saving Life and Protecting Property." New recruits go through twelve weeks of Academy training in North Bend. Lake Stevens Fire is involved in technical rescue training at Station #83 - Machias and they partner with communities in the surrounding areas; participate in National Night Out with a library booth presenting books to young children for someone to read to them which is courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Theme, secret agents of safety. The department serves 42,350 with paramedic service to Granite Falls and Lake Rossinger. The department has 88 employees from firefighters, paramedics to administration support and volunteer chaplains.
