Cavelero Park Community Outreach

The City hosted an open house with Snohomish County Parks, Lake Stevens Park Board and Grindline Inc. at an open house on Monday, August 8th to discuss the new Skatepark at Cavelero Park and provide input on the elements to be included in the 15,000 sq. ft. design.
Mical Shapiro, Marketing & sales/Lead Deisgner from Grindline was on hand to give the community information on the skatepark and some of their history. Shapiro has been a skateboarder since 1986 and has skated all over the world and in competition. The company has built skateparks all over the United States and in our own region. From Iron Horse Park in Baker, MT to North Houston Skate Park to Roxhill Park in Seattle to Texas and Hawaii, they have been deeply involved in the design and development of Skate Parks.
Shapiro distributed a Cavelero Skatepark questionnaire and comment form. Unfortunately, most of attending were adutls and very few users of a skatepark. Also attending the meeting was Tom Teigen, Director Snohomish County Parks, Recreation and Tourism who praised our Rotary Club for being such a long time advocate of a Skate Park in Lake Stevens. Incidently, Tom is an accomplished skateboarder as well and our biggest county supporter for the skatepark. Several Council members along with Mayor John Spencer were on hand. Several Rotarians from our club were on hand for last nights meeting.
Input on the design concept is needed within the next 7-12 days according to Mical Shapiro. On our SkatePark Facebook page, Jim Kelly has set up the following web link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QXVKJMY which is the equivalent of the Grindline questionnaire. Please share this with teens and those skateboards in our community who can offer input into the design process.
The next public meeting with the county, city and Grindline is scheduled for September 12th at 6pm. Location to be announced at a later date.
