Lake Stevens Food Bank Building Update & More
Our program last Friday was an update on the Lake Stevens Food Bank building progress and so much more. Our guests were Food Bank Board Chair Sophie Nunez and Executive Director Anthony Hawley. The Lake Stevens Community Food Bank's goal is to nourish and empower Lake Stevens today, building a resilient and sustainable community for tomorrow. These challenges are real because one in five children in Washington State live in a home that cannot consistently put food on the table. Couples with the high cost of living in our area create a large gap between those who are eligible for assistance and those who are financially stable.

The Food Bank has outgrown their current space. A new building requires funding. The Food Bank received state funding through the Capital Budget in addition to grant funding and community support. The Food Bank needs additional funding. The new building will not only give us the space to keep up with the growing need, but it will also allow: clients to shop for themselves; give space to expand current programs and implement new ones; allow another helping agency to serve our community and be a hot and cold weather site for our community's most vulnerable.
This will give you some idea of all the demanding work that has gone into building a new, stable Lake Stevens Community Food Bank to serve the needs of our growing community. Phase 1 of the Food Bank building has been completed. Phase 1 includes all of the planning, permitting, environmental studies and certification along with connecting into the new utilities on 20th street.

The new site, located on 20th Street SE, has been donated by Tim Kaintz in Honor of Frank McDaniel. Some time ago, our Club set aside $15,000 for the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank. The Club will apply to District 5050 for matching funds to increase our commitment with the goal of being the sponsor of the Teaching Kitchen portion of the Food Bank.
