Tony showed Club Members a snapshot of the Snohomish County Parks, Recreation and Tourist web page referencing the Cavalero Park, the dog park and calls the Department and the City of Lake Stevens are receiving asking who should be contacted when something occurs that needs reporting. Or, how could they organize a off dog leash work party. The City receives most of those calls. Since its a County Park, they have Park Rangers involved at the site. Tony mentioned some of the developments that are being considered including a covered BMX facility (much interest in this), a sand volleyball court, lighting the Skate Park as well as interest in a Pump Track. A Pump Track is a magical setup with a series of bumps and berms where adults and kids can ride their own bicycles. He talked about the various benefits of the Pump Track. Tony told the Club about the popularity of a Pump Track in Leavenworth. Tony showed us the application process for Adopting the Park. The question he posed to the Club is do we want to adopt the entire park. Brian Rewis indicated that the reason he got involved and interested in Rotary was due to the Skate Park. When adopting a park, several activities are required and he spoke of the benefits of Adopting a Park and being a Park Ambassador. The other questions involved how much would our Club would want to be involved in the park. On a yearly, monthly or quarterly basis. After the meeting, Jim Haugen commented that the city is going to build a Pump Track at the Centennial Woods Park and the Dog Park at Cavalero Park maybe moved to the Park up the street on 20th under the power lines to allow for construction of much needed ballfields. Jim commented that there wasn't time to discuss this during Tony's presentation and question and answer session. Our Club is strongly considering and will likely submit an application to Adopt the entire Park and become Park Ambassadors. Exciting opportunities.
