Lake Stevens Fire is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their Fire Marshal Robert Marshall on Monday morning, March 2. Robert Marshall was 62 years old and his death was very unexpected. He passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes.
Robert was born on June 17, 1952 in Vancouver BC, Canada. His family moved to North Seattle when he was eight years old. He graduated from Shorecrest High School in Shoreline, WA in 1970 and then attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA for two years. He participated in choral groups during both high school and college, and played the trumpet and guitar. He was passionate about learning and also attended Shoreline Community College for a couple years.
Robert met his wife Mary in 1972 and they married on November 15, 1975. They moved to Lake Stevens in 1982, and it was a road side sign asking for volunteer firefighters that caught his eye. He applied to be a volunteer firefighter and as they say, after lots of hard work the rest is history!
Robert’s fire service career includes the following positions over the last 23+ years: Volunteer Firefighter, Firefighter/EMT, Fire Prevention Specialist, and Fire Marshal. Robert had a passion for people and his job. He was constantly taking on more training to better himself, the fire department and the community. It was his resolve that brought Risk Watch to our schools and a Fire Safety House to our Lake Stevens community. Robert touched thousands of students’ lives through the Risk Watch Program, and they will remember him and his message for many years to come.
Robert was involved in numerous fire and prevention programs and associations, including but not limited to: WA Public Fire Educators, WA State Association of Fire Marshals, Snohomish County Fire Prevention Association, WA State Sprinkler Coalition, Snohomish County Chiefs, Safe Kids Snohomish County, Vision 20/20 Community Risk Reduction Campaign, International Association of Arson Investigators, National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Firefighters. Additionally, he was a faculty member with the American Heart Association and trained thousands of people in CPR throughout his tenure with Lake Stevens Fire.
He was active in the community as a soccer coach for many years and an avid golfer. He was a big fan of both the Silvertips and the Seahawks, enjoyed fishing and hunting, played guitar on the worship team for his church, taught at Everett Community College in their fire science program, and he started his own CPR training business Life Signs Plus.
Robert is survived by his wife Mary Marshall; mother Ethel Phillips; sister Elana Kemple; children Sarah, Judah, Mark, Enos, Peter, and Grace; nine grandchildren; one nephew; and countless loved ones.
A Memorial Service has been planned for 1pm on Saturday, March 14 at the LSHS Performing Arts Center located at 2908 – 113th Avenue NE, Lake Stevens. Flowers can be sent to the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home prior to the viewing on Monday, March 9 or they can be sent to the LSHS Performing Arts Center on Saturday morning, March 14 from 8am – 11am.

Our Cub Scout Pack will be recognizing two of their own who have earned the highest rank in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light Award. A special ceremony is being held on Sunday, March 29th at the Lake Stevens Senior Center. Following that a separate ceremony will be held as these two Scouts will be "Crossing Over" to Boy Scouts. Each Scout will be joining Troops here in Lake Stevens. Rotarians are encouraged to come and join the families and friends of these Scouts as they receive this special recognition.
All members are invited to attend and participate in Board Meetings. The next one is Thursday, March 19th at the New Country Grill. Your input is vital to the success of our Club.

The Lake Stevens Rotary Club is pleased to announce that the 2015 Rotary Club Scholarships are now being accepted. The applicants must be Seniors at Lake Stevens High School or a member of the Lake Stevens School District Home Link program. The application form is available at the Club website as well as via this link. Questions can be directed to Scholarship Committee Chairman James Monroe.
Members are being asked to sign up for the various tasks that need to be handled for our fundraiser to be successful. Many of you have already taken on some of the tasks. This is an All Hands On Deck event. Everything from Setup to Tear down is still available. Click on this link. You must be logged in to sign up for the tasks. Also, keep selling tickets for the Tasting. This will be great event. Thank you to everyone who has worked hard on preparing for this.
