District 5050 Governor Brad Whittaker and his wife, Kim Isaac, will join us at this week's meeting. Governor Brad will give us an update about the District and the wonderful things that Rotarians are doing in the region. Bring those people that you've been thinking about inviting. Board Members, please plan to meet with Brad after our regular meeting.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Hannah Sladek, Senior Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society and a member of our Club, spoke at our meeting on October 11th, about the upcoming "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" on October 26th. Our Club is hosting a team for the walk. Theme is "What Unites Us Ignites Us".

Making Strides Walks have raised money for breast cancer research. There are 160 grants related to breast cancer research totaling $64.3 million dollars. During the past decade there has been a 40% reduction in breast cancer patients. Catching it early makes it much more treatable. Innovative research and supporting patients is upper most in the campaign against breast cancer. The goal is to raise $125,000 and they are currently at over $90,000. So far, Northwest Aerospace is the top team raising over $17,000 for this walk. Avon is the National Sponsor of the Making Strides Walks.

Sign up for the walk or come cheer our team on as they begin the walk from Snohomish County Campus Plaza in downtown Everett at about 9 am on October 26th.

Cocoon House Yard Clean Up

On Saturday, October 13th, six Rotarians, two additional family members and a gentleman from Molina Health Care joined together to clean up the front yard of the Cocoon House residential facility in Monroe. They quickly trimmed back overgrown vegetation, removed leaves & weeds galore and added bark as a ground cover throughout most of the area. Thanks to all of those that helped!

Rotary Skate Park Update

Views of the Rotary Skate Park taken on Sunday, October 13th as the new park is taking form and shape. This is going to be one awesome skateboard park for Lake Stevens.

Lake Stevens Fire - Open House

- Open House on Tuesday, October 29th from 6-7 pm at the downtown Fire Station 81 at 12409 21st St. NE. The Open House will recognize their members and our Lake Stevens Community. Ceremony begins at 6:15 pm.

District Governor Nominee Bev Harrington has asked Bill Murray to chair her GolFun 2020 event to be held at the Homestead Farm Golf Course in Lynden, Washington on Friday, 21 August 2020. Bill is organizing a committee to plan and execute this event. If you are interested in serving on the GolFun 2020 Organizing Committee, contact our Club Secretary, Gary O'Rielly for details.

Our regular Rotary Club Meetings are at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center lower level Community Room located at 12309 22nd St NE. We start at 7:30 am. There is a robust continental breakfast available beforehand. Visitors are always welcome.
