The planned speaker for last week asked to reschedule and will now join us this week. Patty Klassen is the District's Interact Program Chair. She has served as RYLA Chair in the past and been on the YAIL Committee. If you know of any high school aged youth that are interested in serving their community, tell them about this meeting.

At the Club's regular meeting on April 10, 2015, we talked tulips, sentencing and Cub Scouts.
Louise Edens and Susan Macek of the Rotary Club of La Connor visited with a box full of tulips. That Club sells them as a fundraiser for their projects. Thank you for visiting Louise and Susan!
Tom Thorleifson, a resident of Lake Stevens, gave us an update on the sentencing phase of Erick Walker who was convicted of killing 15 year old Molly Conley as she was walking on South Lake Stevens Road with her friends on June 1, 2013. He was asking us to consider sending the presiding judge, Thomas Wynne, a letter or an email briefly describing how this event has impacted us. He stressed that the message should include wording to the affect of "imposing the maximum possible sentence with no possibility for a sentence reduction." The American Legion Post 181 of Lake Stevens, of which Mr. Thorleifson is a member, helped set up a reward fund towards finding the perpetrator.

Arv Aurdal is the District Commissioner of the Klahaya District, Boy Scouts of America. He is one of the three people who manage the day-to-day business of the Scout District that serves Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Monroe and the Skykomish Valley all of the way up to and including Skykomish. He was at this meeting to present our Club with the BSA Charter that allows us to sponsor and run Cub Scout Pack 88. The Charter was presented to Club President Gary O'Rielly (not pictured). James Monroe is our Chartered Organization Representative which means he represents our Club to the Scout District and works with the volunteer Leaders of our Pack in providing the Scout program to the boys. Pictured here with Arv Aurdal, he receives the 100% Boys' Life banner for the Pack flag. 100% Boys' Life means that every family in the Pack receives Boys' Life magazine. Studies have shown that Scouts who receive this every month tend to stay in Scouting longer and get more out of the program. Thank you Arv and James for your service to Scouting.
This is the last week that the 2015 Rotary Club Scholarships are being accepted. Applicants must be Seniors at Lake Stevens High School or a member of the Lake Stevens School District Home Link program. The deadline to turn in applications is Friday, April 17 at the High School. The application form is available at the Club website as well as via this link. Questions can be directed to Scholarship Committee Chairman James Monroe.
Members are being asked to sign up for the various tasks that need to be handled for our fundraiser to be successful. Many of you have already taken on some of the tasks. This is an All Hands On Deck event. Everything from Setup to Tear down is still available. Click on this link. You must be logged in to sign up for the tasks.
