On Monday, January 12th, Jim Kelley will be presenting the final Cavalero Park plan at the joint Lake Stevens City Council / Park Board meeting. Over the past several months Jim, who is also a member of the City Park Board, has chaired the joint planning committee that has solicited public opinion about what amenities should be included in the park. The committee, which also includes Sam Low from our Club as the City Council representative, has incorporated that information into a design that includes the skate park we have been pursuing as well as a covered BMX facility and other features.
The expected outcome of the presentation is our City Council's approval of the plan. Their approval will then be forwarded to the Snohomish County Council as a request they too approve the plan. Once both the City and County Council are in agreement the project will then move on to the financing/construction phase.
Recently there has been concern the skate park will take a back seat to the covered BMX facility also planned for Cavalero Park. Although the proposal incorporates a state-of-the art covered BMX track that will draw many cycling enthusiasts regionally, the City remains steadfast with us about the importance of building the skate park first, and will continue to emphasize it as the highest of our priorities. Still, we need a strong voice at the meeting to show the community feels the same.
That said, please plan on attending this meeting and be a part of achieving this next milestone.
