Our guest speakers this past Friday, Feb. 4th were Sam Toft, Youth & Teen Program Director and Alyne Van Winkle, Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Y (YMCA) Everett who shared the programs being offered at the Y. One of the important aspects of the Y is supporting healthy family growth along the way. There is the Drop-In Center for ages 10-18. A good place to chill with your friends or get help with your homework. Youth Membership can involve playing basketball, swimming, access to the gym to work out. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a program that gives high school students a chance to make a difference according to Alyne. The purpose is for high school students to share their experiences with an elementary or middle school student. The goal is to spend one hour a week being a mentor, playing games, going outside, working on teacher assignments, or just hanging out. The goal of joining Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County is to help defend every child's chance to reach their potential, to do big, incredible things in their lives. Many great programs at the Y for youth and families to participate in several ways or as Sam and Alyne stated, just hang out and chill. |
