On June 8th, Mindy talked about the Everett Public Library being more than just a library. Other features include a Laptop Learning Lab, a librarian program, presentations by adult and children authors,  streaming videos, downloadable e-books & audio books and resources for small businesses and the Northwest room about local history including Native American history and origin. Plus there is a on-line learning resource center. Responding to a question, there is no intention of merging with Sno-Isle Library system at this time.

 

Did you know that: 1,121,374 materials were checked out and that 79,589 e-books, audio books and e-magazines were checked. Also, the Everett Public Library was designed by Carl Bull, Architect. There is a branch in the south end of Everett that has only 8,000 sq. ft. of space. That library will be expanded to 14,000 sq. ft.

 

Everett is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and the library will be part of that celebration. The Everett Public Library is partnering with the Tulalip Tribe regarding the telling of their history and story.   On Sunday, August 19th at 2pm the library will be hosting an Imaging Everett's Future with the Everett Museum of History. Working on a time capsule and showed us old photos of Everett.

 

Mindy was promoted to her current position in April 2018. Previously, she served as the Northwest Room history specialist where she oversaw the library's local history collection and developed local history programs. Mindy has been a lead planner of the City of Everett's 125th anniversary celebrations this year. Mindy previously served as a special assistant to the Attorney General of Washington and led that agency's statewide historical research efforts. She has a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Washington and a Master's Degree in U. S. History from the University of Maryland.

 

This year was a special scholarship award ceremony.  There were scholarships awarded in the memory of Frank McDaniel, Washington State Trooper Sean O'Connell and Molly Conley, and one in memoriam for Gregory Matson provided by Lance and Carrie Morehouse and a scholarship by Lorna Hole. On hand during the ceremony was John Conley, father of Molly, Washington State Troopers and the McDaniel family and many family members of the award recipients.

 

Each year, the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens endeavors to enhance the amount of scholarship funds through our Cork & Kegs fundraiser in April and our Viking Duck Dash/AquaFest corn booth in July. Sponsorships by local businesses are another source of funding for these two major fundraisers. Congratulations to the eleven Lake Stevens High School students. Well deserved.
