Basically, the Food Bank is trying to get as much food for less than paying retail and always willing to ask the big chain and local grocery stores to give to the Food Bank. Right now, the Food Bank is serving 120 families each week but that is on upward rise. Over 60% of their clients only come for around three months. They served over 2,000 people of all ages last year. Most of their clients are children or senior citizens. Huge healthcare expenses cause some of their clients going into debt. The earning gap starts at $24,000. There are no income requirements. Current small space is in a portion of Ebenezer Lutheran Church which is really crowded with no water, no internet and poor food services. However, the community is super generous. Clients are not getting the full amount of food especially if the weather is poor. Some clients are vulnerable because they cannot stand in line for three hours waiting for food. If its wet and muddy, very difficult to serve their clients. Always working to remedy the situation and for new ways to serve the community. Better distribution is another way of providing better service even from the back of trucks which in most cases prevents the Food Bank from providing all of the food that their clients would be able to pick up at Ebenezer. Events: Team Fitness is putting together a 5K fundraiser. The Food Bank and Team Fitness are looking for more sponsors and teams plus there is the Empty Bowl sponsored by Lake Stevens Ankle and Foot. Farm fresh veggies from local citizens has been very helpful. Healthy Eating Habits: Eating healthy is a big program for families where their clients learn about healthy food habits and the foods to avoid because of their high sugar content. New Building Campaign - Although they have property adjacent to Ebenezer Lutheran Church, a contractor has told the Food Banks that it has way too many problems. The option is to look for another location. Working on a purchasing agreement across from Fire Station 82. Emergency shelter could be part of the property plus expansion would be a possibility. No cost estimate on the new property. Waiting for an appraisal of the property. Good thinks happening with the Food Bank. Stay tuned!
