Our guest speaker on Friday was Jeremy Goldsmith of the Washington State Fathers Network. The WSFN started 47 years ago at UW and was housed under Kindering from 1985-2025 but is now under the Sherwood Community Services umbrella. WAFN is a powerful voice for fathers and families of children with a disability or special health care needs. WSFN is one of the longest running father's program.

The program serves as a connected hub for father's uncles, grandpas and other male caregivers of children with special healthcare needs. Jeremy is the first coordinator under Sherwood and shared his personal connection to the work through his niece who is nonverbal and autistic. The coordinator's responsibilities include relationship-building, resource development, promoting the network and establishing chapters across Washington.

A steering committee of three long-term father volunteers advises the program, contributing institutional knowledge and experience. The network currently has six active chapters, with  a seventh expected soon. the goal is to rebuild from the four active chapters identified after an audit.

Over the history, the network has supported thousands of fathers, serving as a vital support system. Engaged fathers contribute to healthy families, support their partners and build strong communities. The network provides a confidential, supportive space for male caregivers to connect, share advice, and mentor one another. Resources in development include a welcome packet for new chapters and facilitation guides for chapter leads.

Events include Father's Day Campout in Anacortes, Fathers Conference in November and Memorial Breakfast event to promote the network.  Thanks Jeremy for bringing this really important program to our Club.
