The Rotary Foundation

This past week we concluded our series on The Rotary Foundation. November is Foundation month and PDG Larry Jubie, Rotary District 5050's Foundation Chair was our guest speaker. The purpose of the Rotary Foundation is to encourage Every Rotarian, Every Year to engage every Rotarian in the life changing programs of the Rotary Foundation. The real goal is to encourage every Rotarian to personally contribute to The Rotary Foundation annual fund each year.
When you speak of making a difference, think of the people in Monterrico, Guatemala, the High School Homeless Students and the new Skateboard Park and the impact our club has had in these two the communities, local and international. Making a difference includes other projects such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, our Cub Scout Pack, the Lake Stevens Senior Center, the Lake Stevens Boys and Girls Club just to name a few. What a wonderful way to reach people and their daily lives.
Larry talked about the various levels of recognition for those Rotarians that make a cumulative donation to the Rotary Foundation. From a Paul Harris Fellow, donating at least $1,000 US dollars to the four Major Donor levels that start at $10,000 to the Arch Klumph Society member level beginning at least of $250,000 in US dollars.
Larry outlined the impact of the Annual Fund. In 2012-13 generous Rotary Clubs and individuals in our District donated $435,548.72 to the Annual Program fund. Why is this important? Because donations made by the Club and by individuals in the Club are used to support various Rotary programs. Half of these funds (donations) $226,774.36 come back to our District in the form of District Designated Funds (DDF) to support projects during this year.
District Grants are chaired by Malcolm Kennedy and are block grants that allows Clubs and Districts to address immediate needs in their communities and abroad. The maximum amount is $10,000 and is used along with money from your club or clubs. Global Grants are chaired by Rick Bolduc, range from $15,000 to $200,000 and fund large international projects that have a sustainable, measurable outcomes in one or more of the six areas of focus. The six areas of focus are: Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution; Disease Prevention and Treatment; Water and Sanitation; Maternal and Child Health; Basic Education and Literacy and Economic & Community Development. Scholarships is chaired by Jack Rae and includes the Rotary Peace Fellows.
As I said before, Larry is no stranger to our club. Larry joined Rotary in 1995 when he became a member of the Marysville Rotary Club and has served on numerous committees as well as Board positions. From Club President in 2001-02 to his appointment in 2005 as an Assistant District Governor to service as District Governor 5050 for the 2009-10 Rotary year. Larry's milestones include being a Paul Harris Fellow, A Major Donor of the Rotary Foundation and a member of the Arch Klumph Society, a Charter member of the Bequest Society and the recipient of the Four Avenues of Service Awards. Larry just finished his third year as an Assistant Rotary Coordinator for Zone 24 West and served as the District Representative for 2013 and the upcoming 2016 Council on Legislation. The list of accomplishments, and activities will fill another large paragraph. Our club values the relationship we have enjoyed with Larry and look forward to many more exciting activities.
