Sean Hogan, District Governor-Elect was our guest speaker last Friday. The theme for the year 2012-13 will be 'PEACE THROUGH SERVICE'. At the beginning of his talk to our Club, Sean recognized Harv and Larry Jubie, Lee Harman and Doug Newman who were in attendance for our club meeting. Harman was cited for picking up the challenge of raising $330,000 for PolioPlus for District 5050. Through his leadership, District 5050 and its 2,800+ members instead raised $880,000. Nice work Lee and congratulations.
Future Vision is coming which means big changes for the Rotary Foundation. Sean's goal is to enhance each Club's membership and has asked Linda Murray to Chair the District 5050 Membership Task Force. In line with Membership is the goal of rebranding Rotary to be more inclusive using the social media networks to tell our story and look to New Generations of Rotarians. Rotary International is developing a 1 1/2 hear campaign and has hired a well respected PR firm to revitalized Rotary throughout the world. The Rotary wheel is the most recognized symbol in the world but no one can tell us what it stands for and that needs to be changed. Sean spoke about Rotary's involvement in worldwide water projects and drilling wells that only last up to 5 years. Can we do something better?
Club members will have to be certified to manage the Foundation funds so expect that one or two members will have to go through the process of certification at each club level. Regarding local projects, Sean commented that Rotary has changed entire local communities through their efforts. There is real Power of the Individual Rotarian!!!
Sean also distributed Paul Harris awards to Dave DeLorm, PHF+2; Bill Demeroutis, certificate and PHF pin; Dean Franz PHF+1; Barbara Knowles, PHF+1 and John Spencer, a certificate and PHF pin. Others unavailable for this weeks awards were Jim, William and James Haugen and Jim Kooy who will receive their awards at a later date.
